Weyerhaeuser Slashes Jobs At Federal Way Headquarters
Olympia, WA August 5, 2008 2:47 p.m.
The Weyerhaeuser Company is shrinking its corporate staff by 1500 positions. Most of the job cuts will fall at the timber giant’s Federal Way, WA headquarters.
Weyerhaeuser has sold off several major business units over the past year. Chief executive Dan Fulton told industry analysts on a conference call that his company now needs to bring overhead in line with its smaller size.
Dan Fulton: “We emerge from this process a leaner and more focused company. We however will not lose sight of what has made this company great. We remain dedicated to creating a safe work environment and to growing and harvesting trees in a sustainable manner.”
Just Monday, Weyerhaeuser completed the sale of its packaging, containerboard, and recycling business to International Paper.
Fulton says the headquarters downsizing will happen over the next 18 months.
