Mother Of Silverton Police Shooting Victim Coming To Oregon

The mother of a man shot by police in Oregon, plans to fly from her home in Ireland this week, to meet Friday with the Marion County district attorney.

Dorothea Carroll learned a week ago that her 20-year-old son, Andrew, had been fatally shot by Silverton police. The officer involved, Tony Gonzalez, is now on paid administrative leave, while a multi-agency task force investigates.

On Ireland's national radio service, this week, Mrs. Carroll expressed her frustration at knowing so little.

Dorothea Carroll: “And the hard thing is that we’re getting no information whatsoever from the states. I’ve been in contact with the police department there, they wouldn’t speak to me. They put me on to the DA’s department. I left a voice mail, I e-mailed, and they haven’t come back to me. And nobody will speak to me and tell me anything.”

OPB’s calls to the Marion County District Attorney’s office to get details about the meeting were not immediately returned.

County officials have said they won’t offer any more details until the case goes to a grand jury. That could be in a few days, or up to two weeks from now.
