It’s almost the middle of June, but snow – yes snow - is back in the forecast.

Northwest road crews are preparing for an unusual blast of winter in the higher elevations. The storm is expected to hit Monday night and last into Tuesday. Correspondent Austin Jenkins has details.

Washington DOT officials say they’re putting away the lawnmowers and getting the snowplows ready again. That’s because forecasters are predicting up to six inches of snow in the Cascade Mountains.

That could mean January driving conditions in June on Stevens, Snoqualmie, Chinook and White Passes as well as on the North Cascades Highway.

Road crews will apply deicer in advance of any snow and ice.

One Washington Transportation veteran says he’s only seen snow this late twice in 30 years on Snoqualmie Pass – once on 4th of July weekend.

In Oregon, four inches of snow fell on Government Camp last week. Crews are ready if it happens again. They say drivers should be ready too – with chains in the trunk just in case.

In Idaho no snow is expected, but a plow is available on I-90’s Lookout Pass just in case.
