Makah Whale Hunt Plan Gets Public Airing In Seattle
Portland, OR June 5, 2008 4:57 p.m.
In 1999, the Makah Indian tribe in northwest Washington set off an international firestorm of protest when they resumed their traditional whale hunt after a 70-year hiatus.
The tribe is now seeking a permit to allow another hunt and the public is being asked to weigh in.
To catch us up on the story, I spoke with Liam Moriarty, the environment reporter for NPR member station KPLU in Tacoma. I asked him what the public had to say recently in Seattle about the plan to resume whale hunting.
